Creating plan

Plan (Large scale plan) in PanEdit terminology is simple version of a digital map. Map in PanEdit is a set of digital information associated with some ground site and built by standard rules including information about projection, nomenclature, vertical datum etc. Samples of map are topographic, geographic,  scheme maps etc. Map passport must include all this information and a lot of additional data about the given map. For example if you create an digital plan  of an office building floor, Lancaster county tourist scheme or large-scale Cadastral scheme having the local coordinate system, it is easier for you to create  Plan instead of Map. As a result you have digital map in which most of passport fields are filled automatically.

To create plan, select New/Plan option of File menu. It is important to define what coordinate system you are going to use for your plan. If it is large scale cadastrial scheme you can take coordinates from source paper material. If you want have no information about source coordinate system you should create your own one (local coordinate system). In this case before scanning your paper map you should:

- add a rectangular border to map;

- assign 0.0 coordinates to the low-left (south west) map corner;

- calculate map scale (approximately).

Measure map size by X and Y axes and convert this distances to meters using scale factor. If, for example, scale factor is 500 and rectangular X size = 25 cm and Y size = 50 cm you can set following coordinates for plan corners:

X southwest = 0.0,       Y southwest = 0.0,

X northwest = 125.0     Y northwest = 0.0,

X northeast = 125.0     Y northeast = 250.0,

X southeast = 0.0         Y southeast = 250.0.

If it is necessary to create the plan which size is defined by format of a standard sheet (A0 - A4) it is required to set coordinates of bottom left (south - western) corner of a frame and to choose the size and orientation of a sheet.

Besides coordinate values you should set scale factor (500) and select classifier to be used for plan. If creating Work region includes several map sheets you should at first create all sheets separately and then combine them to Work region.

For more high precision of areas calculation, perimeters and other values it is necessary to switch on a flag Heightened precision of objects coordinates that will provide precision of  coordinates storage up to fraction of millimeters. However  disadvantage of it is the doubled size of objects metrics files.
